    Welcome to the Nolimits-Exchange Forum

    The_ArchitectBBSpeed26AJClarke0912baadrixRideWarriorNationKingRCT3A113

    Accepted Behaviour:

    • Be courteous, treat people how you want to be treated.
    • Communicate in full sentences and with reasonably correct spelling and grammar.
    • Keep it rated PG: No racism, slander, homophobia, excessive swearing, discussion of illegal activities, etc. It is never tolerated.
    • Do not troll the forums, post pointless memes, or reduce the general maturity.
    • Do not impersonate Nolimits-Exchange staff.
    • Do not publicly question or criticize the Nolimits-Exchange policies, staff or moderator actions (whisper instead).
    • Hosting contests requires previous consent from staff.
    • Do not make posts advertising/promoting new or other websites.

Common sense prevails; use your brain!

    Formatting Your Post(s):

You can post in regular text, like any forum. But if you want to add a bit of formatting to your posts, you can do this with Markdown (learn about it at Daring Fireball) or HTML (learn it at W3Schools). This will allow you to resize your text, make it italic, bold, underlined, post images, links, and all sorts of things. But when you use formatting options, there are guidelines to follow.
"With great power, comes great responsibility"

    • Embedded images are to be less than 1000 pixels wide (provide a link to the larger image)
    • Resizing of text should be kept for Initial posts, announcements or updates by the thread author.
    • Large text should be used for headers and titles, not entire posts
    • Links should be clickable and take you to a website, not a direct download.
    • Advertising competitive sites is to be avoided.
    • Posting script should be done using inside a code frame to clearly show it separate to the text.
    • Quoting previous comments should only be done when needed, and not for the post above you (instead use a circumflex ^ or @username).
    • Nor should quoting be used to simply give a "thanks" or other acknowledgement (instead use a circumflex ^ or @username).

    Adding Images:

    • If image is under 1000 pixels wide:<img src=www.URL-to-Image.com/MyImage.jpg style="max-width:100%;">
    • If image is over 1000 pixels wide (consider using thumbnail):<img src=www.URL-to-Image.com/MyImage.jpg style="width:100%;max-width:1000px;">
    • Example using Imgur for large thumbnails, here.

    Tips:

    • Use the search function before creating a new topic or post incase it has already been posted or answered
    • Do not post mulitple times in a row (double-posting), instead edit your last comment starting with "edit:" or "update:"
    • Use the whisper button to create private messages or private topics dedicated to only one user who's name you enter in the appropriate box
    • To delete a post, edit it and change it to a whisper aimed at yourself replacing the content with "delete me", a staff member will then delete it.

    Your Project Page

Most of our users have a page (thread/topic) dedicated to their various works, whether it is for their ride creations, 3D modelling, scripting, tools, videos, environments, or anything that they do. So long as it is posted in the correct part of the forum and follows the forum rules, then everything is great! You might even find you start having a following, and a certain style to your work that people love to see and keep up to date with. If you want to see examples of some of these, you need only browse the forums and you will see plenty. Before you start yours, we suggest you read the following guide:

    • Front Page:
Use your first post as the main project page, keeping it up to date with download links, thumbnails or title pics, and links to the latest news comment. But use the thread to post latest comments and pictures, keep your main project page clean.

    • Screenshots:
When taking screenshots, ensure there are no open windows, HUD data, or messages on show. Choose an appropriate position to take your picture from, No Limits has a notable fisheye effect which can make the track to the edges of your screen appear distorted. Then upload them to your chosen image hosting site (we recommend imgur) and insert it into your thread, if you don't know how, revert to previous post.

    • Colours:
Avoid using the default coaster colours. Use custom colours to get across the feel and style of ride you are going for, this helps users understand your intentions.

    • Environments:
Use an appropriate environment to present your ride. The white environment is suggested for when developing trackwork in the early stages. For editor shots with wireframe track, the black environment is recommended. For later in the ride's development when you are showing support work and terrain work, a realistic environment can really compliment your ride. This might even be the stage when you showcase your own custom made environment.

    • Videos:
Much the same as taking screenshots, you need to compose your shots well to get across the correct impression to the users. Avoid any messages, windows, HUD data or cursor pointers from appearing in your video. We recommend you use the built in recorder, and that you purchase NL2 Pro for high quality exports. There are several threads on posting processing, and ways to upload with out losing too much quality. YouTube is well known for quality loss, but is still our recommended video hosting site.

    • Writing:
When writing your text keep in mind that this text will be read by many other users, so make your intentions clear and use proper grammar. We have many professional, mature users here on NLE. You may lose their attention if your writing is immature with poor grammar and spelling. At the same time, if you are too mature and forward with your writing, you may lose out on younger users. So beware of your target audience and your self image that you are trying to get across. Do you want to appear professional and itellectual, or do you want to be young, care free and lively?
Remember from the outset what you are trying to tell everyone. People seldom read an entire post and mostly skim read, if at all. So get to the point quickly and be breif, then you can progress into more detail once you have their attention.
Use correct formatting for links, images and headers. If you link someone to your content, they are significantly more likely to click a link than to copy and paste a URL. Do not make images too small, or too large, if people can't see the picture they will keep on scrolling, but if the image is too large they will consider you amatuer and gloss over it, or if the page takes too long to load as a result they will likely hit back and look at another thread.

*raises hand* What does it mean to "whisper a comment" at someone?
  3.
It's basically a private message within a thread, meaning only the person to whom you whispered can read the comment.

Change the link color from blue to another color, some of us who have proplems with our eye's have a proplem seeing them. lighter with the dark back ground would work.
  4.

coasterdad, Are you colour blind? I have taken the suggestion into consideration for the next site update.

    Thank You.

    -Kind Regards, Mathew Davies.

  5.
What's this tag cloud I see for the site and for users (and can I influence it somehow)? And how come I see things like waffles, watermelons and pancakes in there? Did I miss some topic discussing delicious delicacies?
  6.
If you receive a post colored pink, the pink signifies that the post was for you only (whispered).
  7.
ALSO NOTE A WHISPER WILL BUMP UP A THREAD. We need that PM system.

Matt, I think you might wanna put that bumping up old topics should be avoided. This problem has been happening a lot lately.

^Tis better to bump an old topic rather than it is to start an entirely new topic. It keeps the forum clutter down so that when X Subject is searched that minimal threads pop up, rather than a whole slew of them with irrelevant information.
  10.
^Yes, but lately a few people have bumped old topics that are either done, or haven't had a update in a while.

Bumping old question topics (something named "Problem with Newton 2" or "AHG Tips", for example) is fine because it reduces extraneous and redundant topics. Bumping old project topics, on the other hand, is annoying.

I have only seen one epic bump and that was for a question to the designer. Yes it could of been whispered but if the member is new to the forums he may not be aware of this function. You could of whispered to the user and helped him rather than come here and complain about someone.

Should your bumping this topic be seen in the same light? Or is it fine for you to bump and not another?
  11.
Bumping a topic isn't like an apocalyptic event or anything. lol If there is a legitimate purpose for bumping a topic that has previously sunk I see nothing wrong with it. I mean, the topics were created for a purpose, just because they've not been discussed in a while doesn't mean they are off limits from posting in... I call that "reviving topics". The only thing that becomes annoying, as said, is when it is a project thread, and someone bumps saying something like "Hey, sorry to bump, but is this going to be done anytime soon??" Project threads should really only be bumped by their creator.

Hey, if a friendly neighborhood mod is around, maybe he or she (ok, we're all guys, but moving on...) could go "POINTLESS BUMP!" and delete it the bumping post. Pretty sure it would then sink to wherever it was before in the forum order too. I shall experiment...

Unfortunately not at this time. You will need to crop/resize your avatar to the display you desire.

how do i send a message to somebody ???
  14.
Create a new topic but type the persons name in where it says "Whisper your comments to"
  15.
Type the username of the person you want to PM in the "Whisper your comments to..." box.
  16.
This should be a lot easier to use like the RCT3 forums I use.

Bookmark topics that you frequently post in. That makes them easier to find. Usually the most active topics find their way to the top though, so I don't see how it would be hard to find the topics that you've posted in.

It is pretty hard to go from like 20 boards with 90 pages of threads to just one page.
  18.
Stop quoting the comment above you! Instead, use a circumflex or caret symbol ^ followed by your response. You can do this using: shift + 6 = ^
  19.
When posting your script use the code syntax:
    <code> your script here </ code>

To edit the title, go to the first post that you created, and click on Edit, and the Title option should appear!

Posted By: Mathew DaviesIt is a generally accepted forum rule not to post directly after a post of your own, called doubleposting. If there’s at least about 1–2 days of time between the two, it’s fine although still not the best practice.

You could edit the post then whisper something to yourself to make it show up on the list of threads.
  21.
Might I suggest an alternative to the 960px width image rule?
    <img style="max-width:100%" src="[IMAGE]">

This is better, the image will stick to the width of the forum page no matter what format the forum is being viewed in, as shown in a 4000px wide image below:

I understand that practically images should be kept small for better page loading, but in most cases people are already using width=1000 in their image tags

    Sure, seems fair.

    Dear NoLimits Exchange,

I was not too sure what thread to post this on, and this seems to be the most suitable.

My account has been banned on No Limits Exchange. I think this was because I didn't rate enough people's coasters. Please could I be unbanned and I will follow all of the guidelines.

    Thank you.

    ggddffhh
  23.
Your account would never be banned for "not rating enough people's coasters", if you don't rate enough coasters the exchange will automatically tell you to rate more before you can download again but it certainly won't ban you. You must've broken the actual rules of rating (the 300 characters, etc.) which are posted in plain sight by the rate box and strictly enforced.

Hmm. I have been banned twice in my life by them. I was randomly unbanned, then randomly just went back on and I was banned. All I am asking for is to have one last chance because I have rides I want to upload, and I cant now :( I will make sure I do everything to make sure I don't get banned again too?

    Thanks

Your best bet is going to be to email mathew@nolimits-exchange.com and make a case.

Pro-tip: Don't try to paint it like you weren't banned for a reason. If you were banned, it was for breaking a clearly-explained rule with clearly explained consequences on the Exchange. We don't just randomly ban people.

No promises he'll actually get back to you, but Mathew's the only one capable of reinstating an Exchange account. Short of making a new account, that's your only option.

For the ratings system is it only limited to 300 characters? I know I've posted more than 300 characters at times, sometimes it goes through and other times no. I don't believe that by over posting comments on the ratings would get you banned for something stupid like that. It probably was for either acting like a troll online or by pissing off the right people. Who could say for sure. Play by the rules, You earn their trust. Break the rules, become a nothing.
