Last year, around this time, there was an amazing contest on Coastersims that I'm sure many of you remember...

It was called the 3 Blind Mice Challenge.

The 3 blind mice challenge was one of the best No limits contests ever conceived. Nolimits-Exchange has decided to bring back the challenge for a third time. As most of you know from participating in the past, the rules are simple. The point of the contest is to make the best ride like every competition, but there's a catch. The contestants are joined into teams of three and they each have to make a part of a ride. You might be assigned to Trackwork, Supports, or Theming, you choose. Even then, there is yet another catch, none of the teammates actually know who is on their the team (hence the name of the challenge). Groups of three contestants will be randomly paired together to make a team. I will be judging the contest along with two other people who have yet to be picked. One of the great things about this contest is the variety of rides that are made because there are minimal specifications.

Here are some examples of past coasters:
    Let the Right One In
    The Core
    Tengu

If you would like to join please write whether you would like to be a Track designer, Supporter, or Themer. Also list your second choice along with your email address (whispered though) so I can give you the track when your turn comes to build. I will be releasing more information about the contest, including assignments and time restraints, in two weeks on February 15.

    Dates----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Track: February 15-March 1
    Supports: March 2- March 16
    Themeing: March 17-March 31
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've been working in conjunction with Matthew and Ed Boxer to make this the best contest it can be.

    No template?

BTW, you picked one of the worst times to do this. Most Coaster Crazy Members here are probably going to be in the No Limits Tournament. Therefore, your numbers could be drastically lower. For the same reason, I will not join.

Just wanted to give you a heads up.

Will not, or CANnot? As in, would you plan on entering in the future? If HCL moves the contest date
  2.

I will join. I will want to be a supporter, but if I have to I will do track.

Just because I am a noob here, it doesn't mean that I am a noob to Nolimits. I am Cedar Point Fan anywhere else.

Though if there is any forum activity requirement, that is fine by me.

To devilsrules... What's bad with a little competition ;) I'm completely aware of the competition at CC.com
Also, why would I give out a template if I want your imagination to run freely. You'll soon find that the coaster crazy contests can be rather restrictive. In the past this contest has historically been run template free. I can however post a blank NL file if that would put your mind at ease.

And just to let you know, I've gotten a few entries already whispered to me so even if it looks like no one has joined... they have.

Also, each contestant will have a very sizable amount of time so I wouldn't worry about time problems. You'll have a few weeks to get your section done.
  3.
We already have 3 teams. Keep the entries coming in!

I would love to join, but, I've already started the NLT 2010 at CC.com. I'll keep an eye out for this. Or I'll have to set some time aside for next time you do one. Sorry.
  4.
It's really not that hard to do both guys.. You can set a week (max) aside for this from NLT.

NLT's stupid. Sign me up for Track Building.

First, A113, do you have a second choice? I know your email so you shouldn't worry about that.

And I'm now looking for two experienced judges. I will choose you if you can show me adequate proof that you are good at NL or have a high standards and know what you're talking about.

I took part in the last on over at Coastersims before it went bust. Doubt I will have the eagerness or the time nowadays but I do suggest that anyone who can partake to do so; its great fun and the results are fantastic.

I'm in, for Track work if possible. Second choice would be theming. I know I haven't uploaded some stuff yet, but I had a long time off no limits, and am now into newton 2 for a few months. And I'm sure the results are not bad. I may release a coaster next week, although it was originally made using the fvds.

May I suggest that you set the times when each part of the coaster will have to be done so that people can see if they have commitments during a particular period. Also, this way people can try to keep their schedules free during their time period. I would like to participate but until I know the dates, I'll have to pass because I don't know if I will have conflicts during the working times.
  7.
It's normally a week to do your part.

I believe the point was that some people will need to know dates in order to determine if they can commit themselves to the challenge. Might be a good idea to set out a timeline.

    Track development: M/D - M/D (e.g. Feb 22 - March 15)
    Supports: M/D - M/D
    Environment: M/D - M/D
    Judging: M/D - M/D
    Announcment of winner(s): M/D
  8.
I was actually going to give two weeks to do each part of the ride.

    Track: February 15-March 1
    Supports: March 2- March 16
    Themeing: March 17-March 31

And then I'll announce everything sometime after that.
  9.
I've always wanted to be in something like this!

Hey! I have a few questions...

    1.) Who decides the name?
2.) Does the track-builder make hills and do terraforming?
3.) Wouldn't it be better if the supporter were last, so he could build his supports around the theming?
  10.
I concur with Jcoasters' #3 question/suggestion. It would make more sense to have the theming be second and the supporting last.
  11.
Ehh.... I miiggghhhttt not be able to compete. Considerin the tournament over at CC.com, but don't count me out yet.

    1) Themer
    2) No, that's the themer's job
    3) The supports give the person a say on the terraforming/theming. For example, instead of supporting all the way to the ground, the supporter can go until say 50 feet, then the themer would HAVE to raise the land to that point. It's actually quite fun and worked perfectly imo for Let The Right One In.
  13.

Wouldn't that be too restricting for the themer?
if something like ... AERIS was to be done for example
Remember theming is not only terraforming.
  14.
No, it's really not that difficult. If you think you'd have a hard time making it work, I'd sign up for a different position. It's the way for all 3 builders to chip in their own originality.

And of course it's not only terraforming. Whatever the supporter does will probably not affect what the themer can/cannot do with 3ds and such.

To elaborate on Griff's last comment, HCl was the supporter for The Core, and the theming was just done to how he wanted it, not how HCL made the supports.
  15.
I'm just telling everyone in advanced, you will be judged for teamwork so capitalize on each others work. I don't want a remake of what torch did to me last year. (Curse those tunnels!)

Still as team work, you should abide to the decisions made by each team-mate. If the supports are made above the ground, fix it. If the supporter stinks and supported it like a generic ride, find a way to theme it while satisfying the supports.

This is the point of the challenge, which makes this a great contest.

If your the themer, and you want to have custom footers, than would you remove [if alredy in place] the default footers and add your own?

Like I said earlier you will learn your teams when the contest is over.

    To the track creators.......
You have until midnight on March 1 to create a track worthy of this contest. You may use any type of track and your ride can go anywhere on the building plane. Tools are allowed but Keep your ride realistic because it will be graded down if the g forces are unacceptable. Keep your track white, don't make any changes to the terrain, and don't support your ride because your teammates will be in charge of this. Once you are done email your ride to HCLcoasters@gmail.com. They will be passed off to your teammate on the day their segment begins. Please, don't talk about your ride.

I'll be sending out an email to all of the track builders tonight just to let them know they should start.

    a note to all.......
Do not talk about your ride. If you find that you need to drop out please email me at HCLcoasters@gmail.com and we can work something out. Just remember that if you do drop out you'll be letting your teammates down.

Don't hesitate to ask any questions.

Once again, when your done email your ride to HCLcoasters@gmail.com

Track creators, you may begin building now.

I had to change the assignments because of 2 problems. The list is now updated.

    changes:

Skylindlar is now a track builder
    Jetpulse is now a supporter
    zampano is now a themer

@ Xpress I would consider around 5.2 to be maximum for vertical g's and -1.6 to be the minimum. For lat's it depends on the ride not that it doesn't for the vertical g's. I'm open to suggestions though and if you go a bit over those you won't be graded down. I'm really only talking about obviously bad g's.

So, considering rides can exceed 6g (I.E. Tower Of Terror), it would be acceptable, if only for a quick spike?

I would personally say that's a bit much, but if it's for the correct ride type then sure go for it.

I wasn't challenging the not-set-in-stone rules, I was merely asking what would be acceptable forces. And if all you're going to do is be a grumpy kid who just got home from school, then take it somewhere else.

And last time I checked, I wasn't in the contest ;)
