    Hi Everyone,

At the moment we're developing a new website and we'd like to start with getting your feedback, expectations and experiences; This will help us deliver on the needs of our visitors. The survey is short and sweet and should take no longer than 5 minutes out of your day.

You will find the community survey here: http://surveys.polldaddy.com/s/14F8459B95BE9A84/

    Thank you for your participation.

    Regards,
    Nolimits-Exchange Staff.

Thanks for polling and getting feedback before throwing stuff together for a small subset of users, unlike other sites (cough Facebook, cough) that add new "features" and ask questions later. It's great that you guys are taking the time to consider the community.

The problem with facebook is it's so huge, someone is always going to disagree with the changes they make.

Thanks for the feedback so far, 16 replies. Keep them coming in.

Partially- my issue is they effectively removed a major feature for me by not allowing you to open the site to a friends list feed, which just seems like an oversight in the interest of the sidebar's aesthetics, so they sacrificed a quite useful feature that really improved how I use the site in order to make it easier for the people who complained that they modified the feed in the first place. (Though I could do this back then too, so it's overall a removal anyway). That was my issue.

Obviously I don't see how that could be possible here though, so I'm certainly not concerned, and I'm excited to see how the next version turns out.

Can this thread be used to share how we polled and to discuss in general the direction we would like the site to go?
  4.
Ok well ill just go ahead and share how i feel the site should go. The forum here is great because all the posters here are mature, as far as I can tell noone here holds grudges, we express our opinions fully. In this way I think the site should continue to have its "less-than-mainstream" appeal. I think the site should continue to focus solely on the no limits/newton 2 subject. No RCT3, no branching out into general park/industry news. I think there should be a tutorial section on the main site, starting off with Xpress' support tutorial, and a brief introduction to newton 2 and its features.

WRT the rating system, the ratio system works much better than i originally thought. I would like the feature to be able to decline from reviewing a ride, removing it from your download list. Declining would penalize your ratio, but not to the extent of ignoring the ride completely.

It is daunting for newer ppl to review things. I rate to the best of my ability but many of my reviews i wish I could edit. For example one ride I reviewed awhile ago I gave a near perfect score. It was indeed a great ride but as it turns out the main hook of the ride that I thought was completely original, turns out has been done IRL.

Also I feel rides should be split into categories 1. hand-made 2. newton 2. This makes sense because the design methods are completely different. Newton 2 is a completely separate track design software, all it shares with NL Editor is in placing supports/theming and in using the NL 3D renderer.

Also important. rides should be divided into the categories: 1. recreations & emulating a particular company 2. Unconventional designs. Because ppl build with differing goals. Some are trying to make unique experiences (not necessarily unrealistic, but creative and innovative). Some are taking an academic approach, looking at a particular companies' design/manufacturing methods to create something consistent with that companies style. When the two vastly different philosophies are thrown into the same rating mix, the results are inconsistent and controversial.

ok that is about 40 minutes of my 2 cents.

    peace
  5.
also i would be willing to pay $15/year to keep ads out and continue a tight-knit community.
  6.
^Your right. There needs to be the recreation, fantasy, and realistic categories back.

One thing I REALLY want is a random coaster section on the homepage with three random creations, ala CoasterSims. The reason: many tracks [on this site], after a week, are just lost in the exchange unless a search is made. I really want the random coasters back because I discovered some great rides through that little thing, such as Black Halo, Life Exit, and other goodies I can't really remember. It just stinks getting things lost in the exchange at some point.

Other than that, well, it's been mentioned in the survey or above. :)
  7.
well to not over-complicate things i think "recreation and company simulating" should be one category. And the other category shouldn't be called "fantasy" because that term diminishes the ride from the get-go. I dont consider Gaia a fantasy ride.
  8.
I disagree with the first sentence of your last post, because recreations and realistic rides are completely different. Realistic rides should in general, I believe, exhibit a degree of realism consistent with that seen between real rides within the company. I think that's very important (one of the most important characteristics of a realistic ride), and it wouldn't be covered if realistic rides were grouped with recreations. Realistic, fantasy, and recreation I believe are good categories...however you want to call or define them.
  9.
Well, Gaia would be realistic. It seems like it could be built, right? Regardless if it is Intamin-like?
Fantasy would be like Anabolic ATV.
    Recreations, well, recreations.

No reason why to not make it like the old CS. Anyway, random coaster section...needs to happen...

I kind of liked the Favourite Coaster feature on CoasterSims. I think it helped loads when trying to find good rides and quickly finding the ones you like.

^Second the favorite coaster feature. I always liked to see what certain people's favorite rides were, and often it led me to better rides than those that were technically in the site's top 10.

Random coasters is a thing that would I would definately want to see here. As mentioned before, rides just disappear and are forgotten, some of them without a single rating.

I third the Favorite feature, and second the Random Coasters too, although I don't want this place turning into a CoasterSims clone..

me neither, this place has an identity. Thats why I stay here.

I think one of the most important thins is to integrate the forum, as now the site seems a bit "amateurish".

Also favorite coaster and all that would be great.

I would love for this to become CS2.0. I thought that was a great site, and a lot of the features that it had were really great.

Personally I think "recreation" and "original" categories would suffice. I think that's how I used to have it back when I owned Coasters2k.com and it worked pretty well.

Howdy folks, i am new here and to nolimits in general ( just over a month or so now). A wonderful site, with plenty of knowledgable and very helpful people. i come here just about everyday now. looking forward to the improvements to the site and waiting to find out the downlow on the 3 blind mice compitiion!!!

What about a place to upload 3ds for people to use, i can't help but notice there is nothing out there with exception to a very limited few at NlBench's site. I'd be more than willing to submit some for anybody to use. Also, custom environment as well. just a suggestion. when is the new site gonna be up and running, anybody know?

    Ride on!

I pretty much had the same idea in this thread. I think it'd be a great asset! It'd be really cool if it was somehow integrated to this site too.

Glad to hear you're a daily visitor. The 3 Blind Mice entries should be out soon, but we had a bit of trouble with one of the entries which meant a small part of it has to be rejudged. I'm a bit annoyed myself, but these things happen and I want it to be correct for when it's released. I'll post an official response to that in the contest discussion.

I'm not sure about having a place to upload 3D objects. The effort required to make such a feature wouldn't pay off in my view. A few people have already mentioned this and I'd support them if they ever wanted to go the route of creating a website.

    -Mathew.

Ps: The first iteration of the new website isn't far away now. Some features might have to wait for a later release date.
