A new contest website has popped up!

Full details on this link here.

Sea World is in the process of planning a big new theme park project to open in 2018 and during the planning phase, it has become apparent that they are currently lacking a big, high capacity thrill coaster to headline the park.

You have been brought on board to slot a coaster into an area previously earmarked for something else, and so the area has some limitations, such as a monorail. You must submit your proposal for a big new thrill coaster to the board of directors by Midnight (GMT) on October 31st.

Your ride proposal needs to come in on budget and be a throughput machine, with the following guidelines to help you with your design and represent the rules for this contest.

    • The station area must be within the Yellow box.

    • The ride's main area will be located at the dead end path (marked with Ride Area). Ideally the queue for the ride should start there.

    • Main elements of the coaster should be located around the points of interest marked by the capital letters A, B, C, D. Interaction with the monorail while allowing for maximum line of sight to key features of the surrounding area for the monorail passengers is desired.

    • The project budget allows for a coaster with lengths between 750m and 1000m, while a length of around 950m has been deemed optimal (all lengths excluding maintenance area).

    • The park is eager to see both launched concepts as well as concepts with classic lift hills with a minimum theoretical capacity of 1000pph.

    • Coaster track may leave the areas marked with green and yellow colour, as long as the location of all footers stays within these regions.

    • Clearance with the surrounding paths (in light grey), buildings (in dark grey) and the monorail structures (in red) has to be followed

    • Neighbouring sections of the park are related to sharks (to the south) and rays (to the west), thus either theme should be reflected by the ride.

The above guidelines are used for judging and must be used as a basis for which to design your ride on.

I think I did it. I don't know how, but it passes estop, 4 trains, and stays in the boundaries. This is proof that this contest is actually possible.

So, the station, catwalks and train can leave the box?

^THIS!!!! aslo, as for the 4 cars/trains rule. Say if I had 2 trains with 2 cars or 1 train with 4 cars, would that be enough? or would it need to be 4 trains no matter what the length is? @CCJared

Station, catwalks and trains, yes. Just not track and supports.

4 Trains / Cars would be 4 trains, or 4 cars. Not one train of four cars. Cars relates specifically in the case of Eurofighter, spinner and bobsled cars.

Just finished up the next contest which will go live next weekend. It's a challenge, but not quite as hard as this one!

Then I'm looking to start the NL2 Championship. Looking for the ultimate NoLimits Coaster 2 user. A 5 round tournament to find the ultimate champion!

^ Um. Isn't that exactly what me and Sandorvdl are doing at the moment with Fight Club and Coaster Wars?

Think I've managed it (just). Trackwork isn't perfect yet, and god knows where the supports are going to go, but I managed to fit a fairly substantial layout in the box. I did try a launched layout but I couldn't get it up to speed within the box to make it workable.

Thanks for doing this CCJared, it's a cool little challenge, and really made me think outside the box (ha!) about how and why I design a layout in a specific way.

That's a great looking layout! Can't wait to see how you support that!

Not a problem. I've got many more contests coming over on the website and I am also in talks with a new judge to join the team! So, watch this space! :D

    Can the coaster go underground?

    • CommentTimeSep 19th 2015

^I think it would still have to stay within the cube, so you would have to raise the ground level if you wanted an underground tunnel.

Do we need to put also the storage track inside the box (or at all) ? I hope not xD

    - Does that run 4 trains? ;)

Posted By: RCFCan the coaster go underground?

    - No. The track must stay within the cube and the cube doesn't go far enough underground to allow for a tunnel.

Posted By: lore_sullyDo we need to put also the storage track inside the box (or at all) ? I hope not xD

    - Storage Track must be inside the box, but if I'm honest, I wouldn't bother putting any storage track on unless you have space at the end.

    - Only if it is used to control the ride system, not for any other reason.

I promise this is the last question xD

If it doesn't specifically say we can't do it in the instructions, does that automatically mean we can do it?
