This may be deemed unecessary, and if so mods are free to sink it. But I feel a seperate PC thread could be necessary in order to keep the original games thread from overcrowding (right now it hasn't been too bad though). Only because The games thread centers towards anything game related, would only seem fair with a game as popular as Planet Coaster should deserve a thread of it's own.

    Feel free to post!

well, I just watched the video they posted today about the alpha testers talking about their opinions about the early version of the game. I am truly excited as to how it'll turn out to be!
  1.
I wouldn't say it's overcrowded. The games thread is hardly used for anything else anyway.

It's looking pretty great at the moment. It needs some tweaks and polish (to the coaster builder, the path logic, and some other things), but it's extremely promising and fun-looking. What's super exciting to me is that all signs point to this being in capable hands - great attention to detail and beyond that, an eye for where detail matters, and where it's appropriate to branch of into the silly and fantastical. Even in alpha stage, they certainly seem to be head and shoulders above RCTW and TPS (side note: lol).

As a testament to that: I'm actually considering paying the premium to get Alpha access, in part to play around with it, but perhaps more to be able to provide feedback on it. And, looking at those system specs, finally starting to get serious about a new desktop build (and hey, I'd actually be able to run NL2 smoothly too, so, bonus points).

Cursory survey: has anyone here plunked down the requisite scratch ($70?) for Alpha access? I'd be curious to hear some feedback from people familiar coaster sims/games beyond the RCT series.
  2.
^ It is the very first alpha, it's hardly meant to be polished. In fact, for the stage it's at, I think they've done an incredible job.

Also you'll have to define 'plunked down', because I have no idea if it means 'paid for' or 'turned down'.

Can you add catwalks anywhere on the track? I like that the arrow pre built supports look like togo supports.

    And? I agree.

"Paid for," which is obvious from the context...

  3.
Ok, to expand on what I said earlier, this thread can be for discussing the alpha, but I'll still post any good creations on the Games thread.

^ Wasn't that obvious. You could've just asked me - I think it's definitely worth it if you're very enthusiastic about the game.

Do you get all future updates and the full game if you buy the 70 dollar early alpha version? Or do you have to pay again?

    ^ Yes.

^^^^Well considering the games thread already has a full page worth of just PC discussion, I wouldn't be wrong in saying it's overcrowding the games thread, but you do you I suppose.

Togo, you only have to pay once if you pay for the early access, you will receive updates for the various alpha phases and the finished game for that single payment.

From what I've seen the game seems to be working great for an alpha, besides the problems with paths and what not. Other than that It's pretty well polished for just an alpha.

@BBSpeed - I'll let you know tomorrow after I play through for a while, I'm sure I'll love it but I'll be sure to compare it to other games, etc.

How many flat rides are included in this alpha? Is there a chance turbo and that weird ABC Company huge square gyroscope ride? Or will that be made by someone when they release custom ride content?
  6.
Highly doubt it Togo. They are going off real rides and everything, but I believe they're going for the more UK, America flat rides. Typical flat rides you'd seen in an amusement park. At least, for official rides.

The UGC is something they've talked about, and certainly have talked about. But they aren't saying anything at this time.

There are 11 flat rides in total, Along with an Arrow and B&M Track coaster editing that's still being worked on.

My only main issue with the game is the optimization issues. Currently you need 8GB of ram just to run the game. And for me, a park with 1300 people in it starts to slow down.

I guess that this game hype will only get bigger and bigger each time from now, so a separate thread is a good idea.

I know Code has played the game already. Impression, pictures? =)

Yeah I'm looking forward to park screenshots from those that are more familiar with modelling and coaster building. :)

And TriNationalism, they confirmed UGC a couple days ago, I'm super excited!

    what is TPS?

also...the verdict is still out on RCTW, for me at least. people were acting like the beta was supposed to be a finished product. it was literally just to test out the *unfinished* coaster builder. nothing else. i'm actually kind of excited, it seems like it might strike a healthy balance between the rapid but somewhat limiting puzzle piece construction method of RCT1/2/3 and the time-consuming method of NoLimits1&2.

How long will the 74 dollar early excess alpha version be available? I really want to buy it, like tomorrow. I want to make a long Japanese jet coaster with lots of rampy hills and helixes of nothing that circles a country carnival type area.
  7.
^^ TPS is theme park studio. Just google it and if you think it looks good, proceed to slap yourself in the face and say "you're better than that".
  8.
^^ Until near the end of the year, and jet coasters should be really easy with the editor. Carnival area won't be possible though.

Yeah togo maybe you should look on the Planet Coaster forums and see what the game offers as of now before deciding on buying it. It targets a general coaster crowd and afaik doesn't have any relativity to TOGO coasters or jetcoasters at all.
  9.
Togo, you should definitely find some Planet Coaster forums to ask these questions. And be sure to show them all the weird Japanese rides they have to make for you.

I have been looking at many youtube videos of "lets play planet coaster".

    <a href="http://imgur.com/V7lYJF3"><img src="http://i.imgur.com/V7lYJF3.jpg" title="source: imgur.com" width=1000/></a>

    Togo heartline trains!
  10.
75 is a little steep if your interest for it is meh. But if you were an avid RCT3 player and are looking for the next best thing, a $75 price tag is totally reasonable. It has its bugs (hence Alpha) but overall, its wonderful. What really sells the game for me is the AI of the guests and the way they traverse your park and environments with as much realism a game engine can. I personally highly recommend it. The more support for the game the better it will become.
  11.
I'm absolutely stunned by what I've seen from the Alpha. What would I be buying into in terms of the alpha? is it a timed preview, or is it basically early access, with regular updates?

    edit: yes

So I finally was able to play today, and I must say that it's insanely fun. You can make some very nice decor and the rides themselves are very nice looking. One minor complaint is that the coaster builder is hard to get good trackwork from, but I still love it either way.

    Screens:

As I said, it's really easy to make some awesome stuff and in the end it's great to look back at your progress and see it all coming together. PC is by far my favorite themepark / coaster building game.

Having perfect B&M shaping isn't my primary focus while playing PC, I couldn't care less how realistic you can get. I'm really loving it, everything seems really intuitive and easy to use. Some minor inconveniences, but I think most of them are already being addressed.

It looks like you can't make steep angles/custom inversions with the track editor, your only choice is to use pre-made inversions, right?
  13.
^ Pretty much. It's probably to do with them not making supports to upsidedown/steep track yet. They'll be having dive coasters so they'll have to remove the limit for them, and I'm sure enough people (including me) have mentioned the rotation issue.

    Ha ok thanks. :)
What is the rotation issue? Also, I wish the track would rotate along the heartline instead. I count on you guys with pre-alpha to tell the devs!
  14.
Sorry for the daft question, but how can you play with the coaster editor? My coaster section is just greyed out.

From the Early Alpha FAQTo access coaster building, open a map and select the ‘Rides’, ‘Scenery’ or ‘Buildings’ tab, then select the ‘Search’ option (a magnifying glass) and enter the code ‘underconstruction’ (all one word in lower case) to enable the coaster construction tab.
    Hope this helps. ;)

Being able to rotate 360'. And we'll see about the heartline.

Me too man, but if we wait it'll be $30 and a complete product. Luckily I have school to distract me (like it's doing with NL at the moment), otherwise I'd be chomping at the bit.

Yeap. I'm sitting here pretty confident that my laptop won't run it, so I figure I'll hold off for now, and put those dollars towards finally building a more gaming-friendly rig.

I've been having too much fun playing this game. So many possibilities!

I made a Chief Beef food stall (#ChiefBeefBelief!) with a bathroom built into the building. And, an arrow coaster sits right behind it. :D

EDIT: I think I may play this more than NL2... This game is so much fun...
