    Hi all,

I'm trying to make some custom scenery in NoLimits with Sketchup, the program itself was easy to use, and didn't have any problems with it.
But when I export my model to 3DS, and open it in the nolimitsSimulator, the objects have some weird kind of shadow that makes them pitch black.
I thought there was a solution for this, but i couldn't find it on this forum yet.

I'm afraid there isn't a simple tool for this, but if someone could help me with it would be great.

It has to do with the material-settings in the 3DS. Sketchup does a bad job at that. You somehow need to edit those materials.

There used to be a NLDC page that showed you what to do. It is a SUPER easy fix. I will get more in depth tommorow, I don't have the time right now.

Just download a 3d object creator called Anim8or you'lle need that.

Ohkee, had some problems with my pc, so couldn't do nolimits for weeks now =(, but it's back again, I already downloaded Anim8or, I'll have to re-install sketchup and nolimits now, i guess it's more work than just open the .3ds in anim8or and save it again?

Yah its a litle harder then that, but still REALLY easy.

    This is what you do.

    Open Anim8or

click on OBJECT at he top, and IMPORT your 3ds file

    THEN

    Photobucket

    THEN
    Photobucket

    THEN
    Photobucket

After this simply Place your object like you normally would. Happy modeling

Sorry to resurrect such an ancient topic, but I have quick question.
Is there a way to zoom out in anim8or? There is no magnifying tool, and I am so close to my model that all I see is one poly. And I can't for the life of me figure out how to zoom out.
Is it a hot-key, or am I just looking over the tool?
    Thank you.

again im having the same problem with shadows, but found this thred thought id giv it a go... managed to load it in anim8or but 1 texture wouldnt go in... then wen i saved it, all my textures that had been done where its 2 textures on 1 plane (white side and purple side) all the purple sided parts vanished, is there a way of having them come back?

Purple sided walls in sketchup won't show up because thats the "non existent" side that doesn't show so a graphics card doesn't have to render double every single wall, if you can see purple in your object, you won't see that wall when you get it into the sim. Make sure all your walls are white in sketchup.

To do that, just select the wall right click and click reverse faces or something like that.

    Hope that helped =)

yeh i know about why the purple sides are not done which for the most part dont have textures on but some were double sided (like a fence for example, another was a roof but inside was black) although iv come accross some walls that show white both sides which is really confusing, even with the monochrome or no texture at all, flipping it is still white, think thatll be a trial end error faff... that and the few visable purple sided sections if just made a tiny extrusion so the effect of thin isnt lost...
  3.
i giv up! its stupid, even with all the faces the right way round its still messing up the model...
  4.
When I export the file as 3ds, then open up NL editor and try to place it, it says "cannot process file". Do you know why this is happening?
  5.
^ that is when I do what you said and export it on Anim8or. Also, one time it did export, but the faces that would have been affected by the "black shadow" are just transparent and can't be seen. Can someone please help?

There is no need to bump a thread almost two years old without adding something useful to the conversation.

When I do that in NL2 all my textures are gone and I can only see the material. Does anyone now how to fix it? I used Blender instaed of Sketchup.

It's impossible to know without seeing what you're doing. My first thought is that you're using long form texture names. .3DS file format truncates file names to 11 characters (consistent with the DOS 8.3 file name convention). If you use long form names your file references will break.

I figured it out myself. The .3ds has to be in the same folder as the .blend because the textures weren't exported. Thanks for the answer anyway.

I'm having export problem. Basically, I export the 3ds file, and it turn into some kind of blob. Here is a picture of it.

This isn't an issue that we're familiar with. Perhaps you can post some screens from both Sketchup and NL2. What is the object supposed to look like and what are your steps leading up to the issue?
  9.

Basically what happened went like this: I made a thicker spine for the track in the CK, then imported it to Sketchup like I usually do (go to 'save model as', then unchecked supports and ground. I saved it as: Prime_Track). It imported fine, there was a missing face I filled in, then exported it to NL 1.802 (this was before NL2 was out but I don't have it yet anyway). I exported it to the name: Prime_Track. When I imported it to NL, it went all haywire. Did I do anything wrong? When i get NL2 I'll try the same thing, if the same thing occurs then i will say, if it's fixed then i'll say it's fixed.

Can anyone tell me how to let the, in sketcup, gray faces appear in NL2? I recognice which faces will appear in NL, but I don't know how to make them appear...
